Tshimologong Launch a New Gaming Hub

Digital innovation ecosystem, Tshimologong Innovation Precinct have launched their first gaming hub.

The gaming hub is made in partnership with Agence Française de Développement(AFD), the Embassy of France and French Creative Industry Players.It is also supported by the French Institute of South Africa, University of Witwatersrand and Telkom.

The newly launched hub seeks to supports video game development start-ups, facilitate the participation of black people in the video game industry and provide a channel for African gaming IP to be commercialised.

Iyanu Child of Wonders Heads to HBO Max and Cartoon Network

Streaming platform and television network, HBO Max and Cartoon Network have greenlit the production of an animated adaptation of the pan-African comic book, Iyanu: Child of Wonder.

Created by Roye Okupe, Iyanu Child of Wonder follows the story of an teenage orphan who discoveres she has extraordinary abilities that rival those of the ancient deities. These abilities are the key to bringing back the “age of wonders”.

The animated series will draw inspiration from the comic  and see young female heroine, Iyanu, set out on a journey with two other teenagers to seek the truth about the evil in her homeland. On her adventure, she will uncover the truth about her past, parents and her destiny.

The project will be created and directed by Roye Okupe and financed by Lion Forge Animation.

All Hail The Woman King

Viola Davis plays lead role in The Woman King, an upcoming film set in 1800s in the African Kingdom of Dahomey.

The film follows the journey of the leader of the all-female warrior army the Agojie, General Naniscal (Viola Davis), as she trains the next generation of recruits against an oncoming threat.

The film is directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and also stars Thuso Mdedu, Lashana Lynch, Sheila Atim, Hero Fieness Tiffin and John Boyega.

The Woman King  is scheduled for release in September 2022.
